The GeForce graphics card MSI FX5600 VTD256 MS-8912 is based on the reference design of the NVIDIA GeForce FX5600. MSI engineers decided that is would be better to avoid PCB modifications and concentrated on the other aspects of the motherboard design, such as a cooling system. Actually, the MSI GeForce graphics card cannot be called an exact copy of the etalon GeForce. There is a chip for hardware monitoring WinBond, which is absent on the reference card NVIDIA GeForce FX5600.
The card has a 256 MB DDR memory onboard with a 128bit bus of the data transfer, a AGP interface 2x/4x/8x and a standard set of outputs - one analogue, one digital and VIVO port. There are eight memory micro chips Hynix in a usual TSOP pack and the access time is 3.6 nsec, which is satisfactory for the clock rate 275 of MHz, but the memory functions with the decreased clock rate of 250 MHz. The graphical chip works with the clock rate of 325 MHz according to the NVIDIA specification. The card has separated clock rates for work in 2D and 3D modes. In the 2D mode the kernel and memory are working with the frequencies 270 MHz/500 MHz and in the 3D mode it works with the mentioned 325 MHz/ 500 MHz.
In fact, the MSI strategy for decreasing the memory clock is not clear for experts. It can be an invitation to accelerate this video card by your own taste. The used memory type allows to do it and presents it as a perfect solution for over lookers.
Cooling of the graphical chip and memory chip is performed by an advanced cooling system. Memory chips are covered with a massive radiator and a copper plate with a back side of the card. The graphical chip is blown by the cooler that is installed on the left side. This cooling system is more than efficient for the graphic adapters of such level.
There is another variation of this video card, MSI FX5600 VTD128. This is an advanced modification, which is provided with five gaming discs in its packing box, including the following games: The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Ghost Recon, Duke Nuken: Manhattan Project, Games Collection CD: The Sum of All Fears, IL-2 Sturmovik, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, Rally Trophy, Beam Breakers, Zax: The Alien Hunter, Oni. The pack also contains six CDs with varied soft, comprising MSI developed programs. The technical parameters of these video cards are almost on the same level and you can make your choice after reviewing some detailed tests.
