Dell x50v - hi-end class pocket computerDell presented recently its new pocket computer - x50v model. This handheld device is just the continuation of the x50 line at a first glance, but at the same time, x50v features many significant improvements in comparison to its predecessors.
Hardware stuff is the main distinguishing feature of new Dell creation, resulting in extreme efficiency and productivity as for the pocket computer device. Designers of x50v used the most powerful processor chip, available at the time being for the pocket computers, - Intel XScale PXA270. This processor shows clock speed up to 624MHz and has integrated cash-memory of 256Kb, thus this processor ensures the maximum speed not only in typical office applications, but in media playing, video streaming and 3D gaming as well.
To add more functionality and to widen the graphical capabilities of its new PDA x50v, Dell equipped this model with a very serious video accelerator for pocket computers. This is the newest solution from Intel, media-processor 2700G7. This chip carries 16 Mb of integrated memory and is able to accelerate 2D and 3D imaging and video content in MPEG-2 and WMV formats. This video chip in combination with powerful central processor makes x50v to be a real "monster" among pocket computers, ensuring the maximum efficiency in business applications and in entertainment.
To add more appraisal words to Dell x50v, it is worth speaking about its display. This model possesses 3.7-inches VGA display of a high quality, providing the maximum resolution up to 640 x 480 pixels. This display is first used in new model and consequently is the biggest in Dell's x50 line, but in spite of the increased size of the display, the total dimensions of pocket computer x50v were not enlarged practically. It is interesting to note here, that untill now the most of software applications for handheld devices were designed for 320 x 240 pixels resolution maximum. To make the usage of such software solutions on x50v platform more comfortable, the special option of video chip is used, which automatically doubles the pixels of the software interface, thus fitting it into the big display of x50v.
The audio functionality of new Dell x50v is also on top. The audio chip WM8750, designed by Wolfson Microelectronic, is used in new PDA, which ensures the high quality of sound in comparison to other pocket computer models with less expensive AC'97 audio microchips.
The standard supply set of x50v also corresponds to the high status of the device. Two batteries (typical and enforced one for longer operating), special cradle connector for simultaneous recharging the device and additional battery, significant set of software (based on Windows Mobile 2003 SE Premium Edition with Media Player 10), two 3D games and necessary connectors, casings and belt hangers.
Speaking about the energy efficiency of x50v model, there is the new technology of flexible energy control, which helps to change the CPU's and video accelerator's speed rates, resulting in changing the total energy supply.
Traditionally the wireless functionality of Dell x50s is presented by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.
Taking into consideration the highly efficient processor, video accelerator and integrated audio chip, Dell x50v can surely fight for leader's position on the pocket computers market.
